Welcome
to the web site of
Kate Noble.
Since graduating from the Ruskin School,
Oxford in 1985, Kate Noble spent a few years exhibiting her paintings
and music drawings in Oxford, London and Spoleto. She now works
almost exclusively with silk velvet to create wall hangings
and
tactile
luxury items to wear. Each
piece is a painting, achieving a gem-like quality by building
up colour.
Her
fascination with velvet has led her to research in Italy –
Venice and Umbria, and to the Tanka in Tibet. Although travel
and other cultures have inspired and had a strong influence, her
design ideas, and interpretation, currently taken from the minutae
in nature, are very personal. She is always keen to express her
passion for colour, texture and design in fresh and innovative
ways.
Many
Craft Shops throughout UK have stocked Kate’s work, (Primavera
Cambridge, Artizana Cheshire, American Museum Bath), and she has
been a member of both the Oxfordshire and Devon guilds: her work
is widely collected. She is a member of Makers in Taunton and
has set up co-operative workshops in Wells, Somerset.
